What is Osseointegration?

Osseointegration is the process that allows dental implants to be accepted as a new tooth root. It is thanks to this process that dental implants are able to offer many of their unique benefits including providing a permanent base for your restorations and preventing jaw shrinkage and collapse.

If you have questions about dental implants in Garner, Cary, or surrounding areas of North Carolina, call Dr. Adam Moore at (919) 772-1811 today to schedule a consultation.

Holding Dental Implants Firmly in Place

Osseointegration is the process during which osteoblasts and connective tissue integrate into a dental implant to secure it firmly in place. Without osseointegration, dental implants would not be able to provide a permanent solution for missing teeth, nor would they be able to restore complete strength and function.

Dental implants are made of a biocompatible material and have several microscopic holes dotting their surface. While too small to see, it is these holes that provide the foothold for osteoblasts to secure an implant and make it act as a new tooth root. The process itself can take up to six months, but offers benefits that are well worth the wait.
